Testing 13 Genes
Over the past 10 years, studies have given us insight into genetic variations and the vital role that genes play in an individual's weight management. In fact, genetic disposition is a contributing factor in 40-80% of human body weight variation. This helps explain why not all individuals become obese when exposed to the same environmental inputs and influences. By understanding a client's genetics, a practitioner can provide the best treatment by optimizing a personalised diet and training program.
WHO IS DNA DIET FOR?
DNA Diet is intended for people who have experience difficulty with weight loss and management. The test is recommended especially people who have been overweight for life or suspect that they may be genetically predisposed to obesity.
DNA Diet tests for genetic variations that affect metabolism and combustion processes; hunger and satiety regulation; insulin sensitivity; and inflammation. Based on these test results, DNA Diet offers recommendations for diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes that best support the genetic variations that have a substantial impact on our weight, metabolism, and ability to store and burn fat.
A DNA collection is made by scraping the inside of the cheek with a cotton swab, collecting saliva and cells. The samples are then sent to Nordic Laboratories in secure packaging. Analysis is complete about three weeks after Nordic Laboratories has received the sample.
WHY DNA DIET?
Research in nutrigenomics has revealed a variety of metabolic processes that are important factors in weight maintenance, insulin sensitivity, snacking, overeating, and sensitivity to saturated fats, carbohydrates, and training regimes. With these factors at hand, DNA Diet is a useful tool in any weight-loss program. Based on DNA Diet gene results, the certified DNA Life practitioner can optimise diet and exercise interventions in order to treat and prevent obesity, and determine which of three diets the patient would have the most benefit following: low-carbohydrate, low-fat, or Mediterranean.
Studies show that individuals respond differently to different types of diets, and thus there is no single diet that works well for everyone. By testing DNA Diet's 13 established genetic variations, we can now recommend the best possible diet for each particular person. Test results are then viewed in their entirety, within the context of the patient's background, medical history, daily life, dispositions, previous weight loss history, and desired future weight loss.
